Tips for Capturing a Screenshot on an iPad

If you have recently purchased an iPad and now rely on it for various tasks, you may have encountered a situation where you needed to capture a screenshot. The process of taking a screenshot differs depending on the model of your iPad. Whether your iPad has a home button or not, there are a few techniques to keep in mind. If you own an Apple Pencil, capturing a screenshot and making quick edits to the image is a breeze. Additionally, there is even a virtual home button that can assist you. Here, we present all the methods available for taking a screenshot on an iPad.

How to take screenshot on iPad without home button

As with the latest iPhones, most of the latest iPad models, such as the iPad mini, do not have a home button. So how do you take a screenshot? You can still use the iPad’s physical buttons for this: press the power button and either volume button at the same time. The screen will flash and a screenshot preview will appear in the lower left corner of the screen.

Tap the preview to edit the image and work from there. Otherwise, you can find the screenshot in the Photos app.

How to take a screenshot with the home button

Older iPads have a physical home button, so taking a screenshot on these devices is a little different. Press the power and home buttons at the same time, the screen will flash and the screenshot will appear in your Photos app.

Taking a screenshot with AssistiveTouch

There is also a way to take a screenshot on iPad without using buttons. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch and enable Assistive Touch. Click Double Tap and Customize setting to take a screenshot. A virtual home button appears on the right side of the screen. Tap the button twice quickly to take a screenshot.

Bonus for Apple Pencil users

Take a screenshot by swiping up from the bottom left corner of the screen with Apple Pencil. The edit menu will automatically open and from there you can mark and annotate the image with a pen using a variety of brush options. Tap Done and Save to finish editing.
